On January 5th, 1999 the news broke that Pepperidge Farms would be suing Nabisco over the fish shapes in the CatDog Cheese Nips. As they looked to similar to the Gold Fish Crackers shapes.

With the release of the original CatDog Cheese Nips, fish and bones, was a contest. Some boxes had a CatDog sticker inside, and that was the piece to win. One grand prize was:
A visit to the new Nickelodeon Studio in Burbank California with “plenty of Cheese Nips to munch on”
VIP tour of the Studio where CatDog is(was) made
Meet the CatDog crew
Get a custom picture of you and CatDog
Free admission to Universal Studios Hollywood (for a total of 5 people)
Other prizes included the first place limited to 50 winners who would win a prize package full of CatDog stuff, Cheese Nips and Ritz Bitz sandwiches.
As well as a second-place prize limited to 10,000 winners who would win a digital CatDog watch, and a free coupon for Cheese Nips or Ritz Bitz sandwiches.

On February 4th, 1999 it was declared that Pepperidge Farms had won the battle.
Going forward, Nabisco continued to make CatDog Cheese Nips.
There was also a CatDog Sweepstakes through the Ritz Bitz and Cheese Nips boxes on specially marked boxes.
They even added Winslow, Cliff, Shriek, and Lube in “CatDog & Friends Cheese Nips”!
The CatDog & Friends Cheese Nips boxes had a collector’s edition card on the back and there were 4 available to collect. It also included a fun match the phrase game.
CatDog Cheese Nips boxes are available on Ebay from time-to-time. I have 1 CatDog Cheese Nips box, 1 CatDog & Friends Cheese Nips box, and 1 CatDog Cheese Nips box with the Cheese Nips still inside!
